Find a local SOT in your state who is willing to do the transfer for you (usually $50-100). They will send their FFL/SOT to MaddMacs Precision Tactical (jajones@maddmacsprecisiontactical.com). We will then fill out a Form 3 to transfer the suppressor tax-free to your dealer. The Form 3 is then mailed to the ATF, and after approval (usually around 3-6 weeks) the suppressor is shipped to your dealer.
Once it arrives at your dealer, you will go there and they will fill out a Form 4 to transfer the suppressor to you. They will give you two original forms filled out with the info pertaining to the NFA Weapon and their FFL/SOT.You will then take both Form 4s to your local police department or county sheriff where the sheriff/chief will sign off on the forms showing that they have no knowledge that you would be in violation of state or local laws in possessing this item. The dealer will also give you two fingerprint cards that you will need to have completed while getting the Chief Law Enforcement Officer signature.
You will need to fill out a small form certifying that you are legally in the US. This is called ATF Form 5330.20. You can click on the link to download. This will need to be included with the Form 4s.
You then attach a passport-style photo to each form. You can download a free passport photo maker from PassportPhoto4You.
Enclose a check or Money order made out for $200 to the ATF for the transfer fee. You can also pay via credit or debit card by filling out the appropriate section on the Form 4s.

THE ROLE OF SUPPRESSORS Suppressors, also known as silencers, are the hearing protection of the 21st century sportsman. Despite common misconceptions, suppressors are not silent. They are simply mufflers for firearms, which function by trapping the expanding gasses at the muzzle and allowing them to slowly cool.
SUPPRESSOR LEGALITY AND OWNERSHIP Suppressors are regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934, which falls under the purview of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). To legally purchase or possess a suppressor you must:
Suppressors reduce the noise of a gunshot by an average of 20 – 35 dB, which is roughly the same as earplugs or earmuffs. By decreasing the overall sound signature, suppressors help to preserve the hearing of recreational shooters, hunters, and hunting dogs around the world.
SAFER HUNTING Most hunters do not wear hearing protection in the field because they want to hear their surroundings. The trouble is, exposure to even a single unsuppressed gunshot can, and often does, lead to permanent hearing damage. Suppressors allow hunters to maintain full situational awareness, while still protecting their hearing. The result is a safer hunting experience for the hunter, and for those nearby.
NOISE COMPLAINTS As urban developments advance into rural areas, shooting ranges and hunting preserves across the country are being closed due to noise complaints. Although it can still be heard, suppressed gunfire helps mitigate noise complaints from those who live near shooting ranges and hunting land.
ACCURACY One of the most common problems for shooters is decreased accuracy caused by flinching in anticipation of the firearms discharge and recoil. By containing the explosion of the gunpowder at the muzzle, suppressors reduce recoil, and help decrease muzzle flinch. These benefits lead to improved accuracy, better shot placement, and more humane hunts.

- Be a resident of the United States.
